Karen is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais
Practitioner and authorized Awareness Through
Movement® teacher. She also brings to the
Feldenkrais work, years of experience in
Buddhist and western psychological studies, a
long-standing meditation practice, training in
martial arts (Aikido and Tai Chi), a degree in
English Literature, and work as a writer and
project manager in the computer industry.
Karen’s passionate desire to explore the world,
coupled with a strong interest in human
development and personal growth, led her to the
Feldenkrais method. While travelling in New
Zealand in 2004-2005, she attended a 10-day
Awareness Through Movement workshop at the
Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre
(www.wangapeka.org). During the workshop she
experienced immediate benefits, including
reduction of chronic pain in areas such as the
neck and back, reduced mental tensions,
relaxation of the entire nervous system, and
greater flexibility and stability in physical
movement, sensing, thinking, and feeling. These
results convinced her that the Feldenkrais
method has the potential to help people of all
ages and abilities to overcome limiting habit
patterns, and find comfort and vitality in all
aspects of being.
Karen benefited from initially attending two
excellent training programs, one at the
Feldenkrais Institute in New York, with
David-Zemach Berzin, and the other at the
Feldenkrais Trainings Toronto, with Arlyn Zones
and Olena Nitefor. She chose to complete her
training in the Toronto program, closer to her
current home in Ottawa, Canada. Since
graduating from the basic program, she
continues to attend Feldenkrais method advanced
trainings and is establishing a practice in the
Ottawa area.
